Labor Day is celebrated every year all over the world but on different dates. In Canada and America, this day is celebrated on the first Monday of September. This is a public holiday. This day is celebrated to honor the contribution of the workers. More than 80 countries all over the world celebrate Labor Day on the first day of May.

History of Labor Day
Before the labor movement, the condition of workers in factories in the 18th and 19th centuries was very bad. In some states, children below 5 years were working and in some states, they were not. The condition of some laborers was also very unsafe.
And very few laws were made for the workers. To solve these issues, the labor movement was started. This movement started with the prevention of child labor and making health benefits. The first Labor Day was recognized in the month of September between 1880 and 1890.

Who Started Labor Day
There are doubts about who started it. Some old records suggest that the day was started by the General Secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners to honor working women and men. In recent research, the name Matthew Maguire has come up. It is said that he proposed to leave in 1882 while serving as the secretary of the Union Labor Union in New York.

Labor Day is an official federal holiday in America, which means that government and private offices, schools, and some businesses are closed on this day. On this day, parades are taken out in some parts of the country.
